The latest research on AI influence on energy consumption has shown that in 2027 the entire AI industry can consume as much energy as such a high-developed European country as Kingdom of Netherlands.

The author of research, Alex De Vries, PhD candidate at the VU Amsterdam School of Business and Economics, stated that he can’t claim that the result is 100% accurate as companies don’t provide enough data regarding the use of AI, and futher, its energy consumption.

“You would be talking about the size of a country like the Netherlands in terms of electricity consumption. You’re talking about half a per cent of our total global electricity consumption,” he told BBC News.
