Plane passengers who are traveling across the EU will be allowed to use 5G on the board soon, BBC informs. European Commission stated that airlines can provide 5G technology on board planes, slowing down mobile data speeds.

This means that passengers will no more be forced to switch their mobile phones to “Flight mode”, but still there are no details concerning how will this be provided. Countries that are members of the EU  must make 5G frequency bands available for aviation by June 30, 2023.

Thierry Breton, the EU’s internal market commissioner, said the plan would deliver innovative services for people and help European companies grow.

The European Commission has reserved certain frequency bands for aircraft since 2008, which has made it possible to offer Internet access in the air. But the speed was slow. The new system will allow you to download a movie in just a few minutes at a speed of more than 100 Mbps.
